Tasik Kenyir's ambience is magical all day and night.  Hidden in the misty dawn, shimmering blue-hued lake reflecting the midday skyline, and later glimmering in the rusty light of dusk.  The scene is always glorious.  The smell of the forest is sweet.  The voices are harmonious.  Early morning bird songs break the silence of valley.  An army of bees buzz among beautiful flowers.  As the morning sun rises, butterflies spread their wings and slowly glide around flowering trees.  Geckos come out of hiding to bask on rocks, absorbing the soothing warm sunlight.  Squirrels are busy finding fruits.  Midday is the siesta time for all forest animals.  Nothing moves.  A few hours before the sun sets, all animals are busy finding food.  It's pitch black at night.  Pairs of eyes pop out of the forest.  could it be wild boars?  Civets?  Tigers?  Our thoughts of ghosts and supernatural spirits come flooding into our minds.  The lake, forest, animals and plants are our heritage held in trust for our future generations to learn about, enjoy and respect the scarce natural resources in Malaysia.  This book provides a glimpse of the present biodiversity at Tasik Kenyir.  Large mammals are at the brink of extinction and perhaps our last biodiversity stronghold in Terengganu is Tasik Kenyir.  Enjoy it while it lasts.

Buku ini ditulis dalam Bahasa Inggeris.  Tapi, not to worry, buku ini penuh dengan gambar-gambar.  Sama seperti buku Royal Belum, setiap gambar haiwan dan tumbuhannya adalah penerangan tentang spesies, Family dan Order masing-masing.  Sesuai sangat untuk pelajar Biologi (botani dan zoologi) yang sedang belajar taksonomi.

Ada juga penerangan tentang kawasan persekitaran, misalnya komuniti orang asli yang tinggal di situ.  Kemudahan dan daya tarikan yang ada di sekitarnya juga dinyatakan.  Contohnya, Taman Herba, Santuari Sungai Kelah, Pusat Konservasi dan beberapa tarikan lagi.  Kena baca baru tau....

 

Diakhir sekali, ada juga appendiks - senarai flora dan fauna yang ada di Tasik Kenyir.  Sangat bermanfaat.

Royal Belum-Temengor Rainforest:  The Hidden Treasure of Perak presents the latest information on the richness of flora and fauna spesies found in the Royal Belum-Temengor Rainforest, Perak.  The rainforest, which covers an area of 117,500 ha, comprises of Gerik Forest Reserve and Belum Forest Reserve has been gazetted as Perak state park in the year 2000.  Enriched with magnificient photos of species, this coffee table book also include the QR code linking each species to added information on the Malaysian Biodiversity Information System (MyBIS) website, which is the national repository center for Malaysian biological diversity.  This book is prepared following the Royal Belum project initiated in November 2015 and February 2016, and Program Perintis Inventori Koleksi Saintifik Biodiversiti 2017.

Komen:

First of all, buku ini ditulis dalam Bahasa Inggeris.  Obviously, kalau tengok bahagian harga pun, dah tau, ianya bukan saja untuk pasaran tempatan, malah untuk antarabangsa juga.  Kedua, buku ini diterbitkan dengan kulit keras.  Jadi, ini salah satu faktor penyumbang kepada harganya.  Ketiga, hampir setiap halaman dicetak dengan gambar berwarna.  Oleh itu, jangan terkejut bila harganya lebih dari RM100.

 

Bagi saya, berbaloi untuk memilikinya sebab bolehlah mengenali dengan lebih mendalam mengenai negara kita yang tercinta.  Lagi satu, siap ada QR code bagi untuk dapat maklumat lanjut mengenai  organisma yang ada dalam buku ni, bukan semua ya.

Oh my God! It's been one whole year without any postings.  I guess, the Covid-19 pandemic has affected my mood too.  

 

Some days, when I felt like writing, nothing came to my mind.  But when I had an idea, something came up that prevented me to sit in front of my laptop to write.

So today, I decided to add a page that consists of my teaching notes that I have converted into flipbooks.  Feel free to have a look.  Hopefully, you'll gain something from it.  All the notes are in Bahasa Melayu though.  I'm planning to add more flipbooks in the future.

Fokus utama buku ini ialah mengenai hukum fekah dalam bidang fotografi.  Sebelum ni tak terfikir pun yang fotografi juga ada membabitkan hukum fekah.  Tapi, bila mula baca buku ni, barulah nampak kepentingan fekah dalam bidang ini.  Nampak sangat cetek ilmu Islam 😑😑😑

 Kalau dah nama buku ni fotografi, dalamnya memang banyak gambar.  Warna-warni pulak.  Dimulakan dengan sejarah dulu.  Sejarah berkenaan dengan optik dan kanta, sebab fotografi memang menggunakan kanta dan prinsip optik.  Kemudian barulah bab fekah dalam bidang fotografi.  Asal usul fekah yang berkaitan dan pandangan ulama'.

Bab seterusnya, ditunjukkan gambar-gambar terbaik yang dirakamkan.  Memang cantik!  Dinyatakan juga mengapa gambar itu dianggap terbaik.  Di samping itu, dimasukkan juga beberapa ayat-ayat Quran dan hadith yang menyokong (konsep-konsep? atau cara pengambilan gambar?) gambar tersebut.

Bab akhir adalah berkenaan adab dan etika dalam fotografi.  Bagi orang Islam.  Perkara ni sangatlah penting sebab disebalik keseronokan mengambil gambar, ada perkara yang perlu dijaga, terutamanya isu aurat.  Gambar / foto yang diambil, berkemungkinan akan jadi tatapan umum, lagilah jika dikongsi dalam laman sosial.  Maka, banyak perkara yang perlu difikirkan agar ianya menjadi ibadah kepada kita dan mungkin juga saham syurga di akhirat nanti.

Sangat baik bagi yang meminati bidang fotografi.

Kucing oh kucing

Tak tahu dari mana datangnya.  Tiba-tiba dah ada kat rumah.  Bukan dia saja.  Sebelumnya dah ada dua ekor.  Seekor jantan, seekor lagi betina. Semua tak bernama, sebab bukan kucing kami.


Yang menghairankan, boleh pulak dia kamceng dengan yang jantan tu.  Selalunya kalau sama jantina, kan selalu bergaduh.  Nak berebut kawasan.  Adik ipar punya teori, dia orang ni adik-beradik.  Hmm... mungkin jugak.  Ini buktinya.

Yang betina tu, baru lagi beranak.  Satu anaknya sama pulak warna dengan yang jantan ni.  Agak-agak, dia bapaknya kot.

Tak taulah berapa lama dia nak tinggal di sini.

Mukah.... Memories Left Behind

If not because of my daughter, I wouldn't dream of coming here.  Not just here in Mukah, but maybe outside of Peninsular Malaysia.  She got an offer to study in UITM Mukah.

It is the first time for me to be outside of Peninsular Malaysia, first time boarding a plane.... and also a first time to board small plane (twin otter) in both good weather and raining.

A nice experience, considering that I had only four days leave.  Since its not on school holiday, I had to leave my two sons with my brother.

KLIA, here we come!!!

The bus ride from Ipoh to KLIA went smoothly.  Arrived on time at around 3 am.  I purposely booked my flight at around 8 am because I wanted to be in Mukah in broad daylight.  Just to make me "feel good" venturing into an unknown territory.  Just in case anything bad happens..... Well, you never know, right?  The flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching was also smooth sailing.  And so does the flight to Mukah, and to the chalet that my husband booked.  Alhamdulillah.

KLIA.  Well... It's KLIA, what more can I say.

The airport is small since it can only cater the twin otter planes.  But its so breezy since its just at the seaside!  No need for air-conditioning!  Mukah is going to have a bigger airport and construction has started.  I don't know what's going to happen to this airport in the future.

This is where we stay in Mukah.  Petanak Beach Chalets and Cafe.  About five minutes from the airport.  The authority was doing some improvement to the drainage system when I was there. So, its quite messy in the picture.

We went for sight seeing before the registration day.  It's a modern town, contrary to what I've been told before this.

On our way back after the registration, I had this ABC Mukah version (forgot its name).  Full of fruits!!!! Heaven!!!!

Wanted to try mee udang in Oya.  Unfortunately, all the big prawns are sold out! Had to settle with normal size prawn instead.  But.... lucky us, there was an MP eating there (we didn't know).  Had a chat with him and his assistant.  Later, we found out that he had "belanja" us!  Rezeki!

It was raining all the way on our way back to Kuching, Luckily, only had slight turbulence during the flight.  Nothing much to look at, just grey clouds...
